Got a surprise tax adjustment from State of Michigan and called Michigan Department of Treasury for information, but they couldn't tell me anything, just referred me to IRS. Called another time and couldn't get through their phone system.

I was told how convenient it was to pay our business tax bill online. We signed up and paid it, but the bank blocked it, as they thought it was fraud. So of course, we hurried up and wrote a check to the state to cover our tax bill. We then get a $50 bill in the mail for a returned check fee, despite having paid the bill in full on time. I called the state, was told I wasn't on the tax return, so they couldn't speak with me (I am authorized). Got a call back, told she found me on the account, made me verify details again after spending a few more minutes, she told me she couldn't help at all with this sort of thing and referred me somewhere else. I spend 15 more minutes on hold and am told they won't waive the fee. What? This organization is a joke. Your tax dollars at work, scamming small businesses out of money.
